The Parent’s Perspective:

Oppidan truly stands out as a remarkable and comforting presence in our child’s educational journey—like that favourite, snug armchair you gravitate towards after a long day, providing warmth, reassurance, and effortless support. The experience they offer goes far beyond simple academic guidance; it’s about making children feel genuinely seen, valued, and empowered to be their best.

Our introduction to Oppidan came at a pivotal moment, just as entrance exams loomed and teenage anxieties mounted. The Oppidan mentorship programme was conducted in-house at our son’s prep school, with their mentor spending an entire day with the year group and then engaging with each boy individually. This approach was refreshingly attentive and personal, making each child feel understood in a way teachers and parents sometimes struggle to achieve.

Initially, we presumed Oppidan’s involvement would focus on traditional interview skills, but it quickly became clear that their remit was much broader and deeper. The report we received on our son was simply astonishing—it highlighted the qualities we recognised but felt had become buried in the daily grind and mounting pressure of school life and looming exams. Our son’s mentor, shone a gentle spotlight on his strengths and character, reminding him (and us) of the confident, courageous boy within. Two years later, that report remains a touchstone for us, especially when our son needs a boost in self-confidence. He approached his senior school exams with renewed vigour and self-belief, standing tall and proud.

What truly sets Oppidan apart is the time and care their mentors invest in listening to, engaging with, and taking a genuine interest in each child. This kind of thoughtful attention is an invaluable gift at any stage of a child’s academic life, helping them to believe in themselves and flourish. It’s clear from our experience—and from the broader context of schools and parents seeking more flexible, supportive solutions—that Oppidan’s approach is not only effective but also essential for nurturing well-rounded, resilient children who are ready for whatever comes next.

Bravo, Oppidan! Your mentorship is a beacon for children and families alike, inspiring confidence and happiness while making challenging times feel that little bit easier.

I first encountered Oppidan when my eldest (now 14 yrs) was starting his ISEB journey. This can be a daunting time I think for both parent and child; navigating a process that starts with a 10yrs old child and finishes when he is 13yrs and during which so many changes happen as he evolves in every way, it is almost impossible to predict!

Oppidan is unique because it is all about instilling a child with confidence through mentorship. And while that may come in many different guises (be that an academic need for support in a particular subject), unlocking confidence is at the heart of their offering.   Having worked with Oppidan now for both of my sons, this mentorship style has been truly valuable in supporting them through this journey, away from the class room creating an opportunity for discussion, gently instilling self belief and as such progress.

It has been an incredibly valuable experience for us as a family and has been a brilliant complement to all that school offers.
